Lineardraft Live: Your Questions Answered!

On Thursday 2nd October we held two open demonstrations of Lineardraft to rail industry professionals around the world. Before and during the sessions, attendees could submit their questions to us. Here's every question and answer from Lineardraft Live!

What are the costs of the software and how many licenses / users does it give access to or is there no limit? Are there costs for training once the software is bought?

  • Licenses are sold on a ‘per-user’ basis. We have no minimum or maximum license requirements.

  • Comprehensive training and dedicated support is provided as standard.

  • For pricing, please see our website.

As we know Lineardraft is specifically developed as an add-on for Bentley MicroStation, can you confirm if there is a Lineardraft add-on for Autodesk Software such as AutoCAD?

Due to our current market, Lineardraft is only available for use within Bentley MicroStation. However, if the market demands shift, then Lineardraft can be made available within other CAD platforms.

Does Lineardraft do cross-sections?

Yes. Our cross-section automation module, known as ‘Elevation’, is currently under a pilot programme with existing customers. You can find out more here: Elevation Module Pilot Programme.

What current design ranges/catalogue of elements (mast, foundations, catenary equipment, etc..) are available in Lineardraft?

See our Helpcentre (Design Catalogues) for the current available ranges. However, if you require a range that has not yet been developed as a Lineardraft Catalogue, please see the Design Catalogues section of the online demonstration (link below) or watch this video.

How long does it take to develop a design catalogue?

It’s dependent on the size and complexity of the design range. Typically, we split design catalogue creation into phases, prioritising the components you need to get started. Learn more here.

Does the software provide the possibility to calculate the statics of masts and foundations?

The JSON raw data output can be used to feed into other internal systems to generate accurate values for such calculations.

The JSON raw data contains detailed information for mast length and type, co-ordinate positions of foundations and wire information such as heights and radial loads among many other parameters.

Network Rail use Ellipse, which is their data base for asset data. Is it possible to bulk upload this data to multiple structures created using Lineardraft?

Yes, the custom asset data can be added directly to structures in the model, and conversely, the raw data JSON output can be used to upload Lineardraft asset data into any external system.

What projects has Lineardraft been used on?

Lineardraft has been successfully used on many projects around the world, from outline to detailed designs, including:

  • Transpennine Route Upgrade

  • HS2

  • Midland Mainline
